• MLK Commons Memorial Panel 1
  The Regional History Center/University Archives at NIU has the mission of preserving and documenting the history of the university, including those as incomprehensive as the tragic event that occurred on campus on Thursday, February 14, 2008. One way our community helped each other was by writing messages of support on the Memorial Panels that were placed in the Martin Luther King Commons. When the A-frame boards were dismantled, the Message Panels were brought to the Regional History Center/University Archives for permanent preservation. Then the panels were layered in archival tissue, wrapped around archival tubes, and covered with muslin cloth and ties for permanent preservation in the Archives. Originally there were eight panels placed in the Martin Luther King Commons. Due to the weather, two of the panels were removed on March 19, 2008 and blank canvass were installed so additional messages of support could be added.
• Banners from University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point
  Banner #1: Green paper banner folded into a card reading on the front: NIU: Our thoughts are with you during this tragic time. There is also an Eleanor Roosevelt quote on the front. Inside reads: -Students of the University of WI - Stevens Point. Various messages, prayers and signatures cover the banner. Size: 36" tall by 73.5" long. Banner #2: Blue paper banner folded into a card reading on the front: NIU: Our thoughts are with you during this tragic time. There is also an Eleanor Roosevelt quote on the front which differs from the quote on the banner above. Size: 36" tall by 83.25" long. Banner #3: Red paper banner folded into a card reading on the front: NIU: Our thoughts are with you, the school and your families during this tragic time. There is also an Eleanor Roosevelt quote on the front which differs from the quotes on the banners above. Size: 36" tall by 88.5" long. Also included with the banners was a UWSP Pointers decal. Size: 4.25" wide by 5.75" tall.
• Banner from Northwestern University
  White cloth banner with Northwestern "N" in upper left-hand corner reading in red and black: Our Prayers Are With You.... Various messages, prayers and signatures cover the banner, several of which mention Catalina. Size: 66.25" tall by 99.5" long.
• Banner from the College of Notre Dame - Maryland
  White cloth banner reading in black and red: Our Thoughts & Prayers Are With You: -From College of Notre Dame of Maryland. Various messages, prayers, drawings and signatures cover the banner. Size: 56" tall by 60" wide.
• Banner from Mr. Davis' Fifth Grade Class at Grove Elementary School
  Long, white paper banner reading: Don't Give Up: Mr Davis' Class: 5th Grade: Grove School: Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Various messages, prayers, drawings and signatures cover the banner. Size: 36" tall by 140" long.
• Banner from the University of Hartford
  White vinyl banner with a large NIU logo at center in black. Various messages, prayers and signatures cover the banner. Brass ringlets along top and bottom of banner for hanging. Size: 32.5" tall by 85" long.
• Banner from Lincoln College - Normal
  White vinyl banner with huskie dog over black ribbon logo reading: Husky Nation: Lincoln College in Normal Stands With You, NIU: We Are All Huskies Today. Various messages, prayers and signatures cover the banner. Gold ringlets around border. Size: 24" tall by 60" long.
• Card from the Sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha at Virginia Tech
  Large card made from maroon construction paper and tied together with orange ribbons. The front of the card reads "NIU" over a black ribbon. Inside and on the back are various messages, prayers and signatures. Main message inside reads: Hokies for Huskies: [Heart] the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha. Size: 12" tall by 12" wide.
• Banner from Black Hawk College - East Campus Student Government Association
  White paper banner with large "NIU" painted on in red and black reading: Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you...: Black Hawk East. Various messages and signatures cover the banner. Letter included addressed to NIU SGA members and Student Body from BHE SGA c/o Wendy Bock. Size: 48" tall by 52.25" long.
• Banner from the University of Texas at Dallas Student Government
  Large, white paper banner reading: In Memory of the Students from Northern Illinois University and the tragedy last week: Our thoughts are with you: ~The Students at the University of Texas at Dallas. Various messages, prayers and signatures cover the banner. Some Spanish, Chinese, Sanskrit, Thai, and possibly more. Card included addressed to the Student Government of Northern Illinois University. Size: 36" tall by 128" long.
