February 14, 2008 Memorial

February 14, 2008 was a tragic day for the community of Northern Illinois University. This site was created by the staff of the University Archives and Regional History Center as a memorial for all affected by that day's campus shooting. It is devoted to the healing and support of each individual as they browse and comment upon the items and contribute their own unique memories.

The Center’s staff hopes that the visitors to this website learn from the February 14, 2008 tragedy.

Lesson plans to help teachers use the information are available for different ages groups and on various topics. Realizing that teachers will find it difficult to visit the Center to look at the 2/14 Memorial Collection, we have made the items that can be used for teaching purposes available by clicking on the links within the lesson plans. Bibliographies on relevant topics such as campus violence, campus shootings, and mental illness are available.
