Answers to questionnaire submitted by Caroline Melsa May 11, 2020
When and how did you become aware of the pandemic? What were your initial thoughts? Did your response change over time?
I first became aware of the virus itself early on in the semester when there was an article about it in the student newspaper. I was then made aware of the virus becoming a pandemic while I was on a university sport trip to Missouri. I was initially not suprised that there was a news article about it when I was first introduced to the virus because I thought of it as the same as when the “swine flu” was a thing. When I heard that it was pandemic, I was honestly really upset because there was so much uncertainty and confusion going on surrounding the topic. My response has somewhat changed over time as I have just adapted to it being a part of the world now.
What is daily life like for you? In what ways has it changed?
Daily life for me, now that finals has passed, is waking up, working out, making meals, and doing my best to follow some normal routine.
It has been an anxious time for everyone. What has inspired you or given you hope during this period? What are you most worried about or what have been your biggest stressors? What has been the most difficult thing for you personally about the crisis?
There has been a lot that has given me hope. Mainly my ability to persevere through this and my ability to use my body and move. My biggest stressor is not having a job and not knowing when things will change. Personally, the most difficult thing for me has been dealing with my anxiety over the uncertainty of the situation.
