Documenting the NIU Experience to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Collected Item: “Answers to questionnaire submitted anonymously July 21, 2020”

When and how did you become aware of the pandemic? What were your initial thoughts? Did your response change over time?

My friends are very politically active and had been posting about the virus since 2019. My friend came over to my house and showed me some projective math she had done to show how the virus will spread. The next day, we went into shelter in place.

What is daily life like for you? In what ways has it changed?

I went back to working in healthcare in order to stay busy and make money, and to do something helpful. I work with the elderly, so keeping them entertained and reminding them about quarantine procedures is a big part of it. Other days, I try to rest as much as possible and eat healthy.

It has been an anxious time for everyone. What has inspired you or given you hope during this period? What are you most worried about or what have been your biggest stressors? What has been the most difficult thing for you personally about the crisis?

I think this is, unfortunately, what the world needed (especially the U.S.) in order to enact much-needed change.

What else would you like us to know?

I'm so proud to be a Huskie right now. I think NIU is doing a great job of being cautious and offering different types of learning for the fall.
